Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Have we truly forgotten the basic principle that our help comes from the Lord? The actions of each one of us speak very loudly to this question. Right now we are fighting battles in our own strength. We are warring against each other with the attempt to prove who is right and who is wrong. In the midst of all of this we have forgotten our fundamental resource.
We are definitely experiencing some troubling times. We are experiencing some uncertain times. We are seeing some crazy stuff happening all over the world. During times like these we must not utilize social media platforms to voice opinions and win battles. The help we need comes from the Lord. Our help is not found in “likes” and “comments”. Our help comes from the Lord. In the midst of chaos we must run to stable ground. God is our refuge. During moments of storms He must be our storm shelter. While operating in uncertainty we must rely on God’s strength and not our own.
I encourage you to read this entire chapter several times today. I want to share some phrases from this chapter that spoke volumes to me:
- “There is a river…and God is in the midst of her.”
- “The Lord of host is with us…”
- “Be still and know that I am God…”
The text ends with the word “Selah” which means pause for just a few moments and think about it.
