John 16:21 “A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delievered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.”
The Lord gives an awesome illustration explaining the time we sorrow compared to our times of joy. We learn through this text that sorrow and pain are just temporary experiences. He compares our experience here on this earth to the birthing process of a child. During the birthing process there is a tremendous amount of pain, and sorrow. It is amazing that once the child is born the pain and sorrow was worth every moment.
- We need to realize that the end result of our journey will be worth it. There are a lot of things we face and experience on this earth that will bring us heart ache. We are taught that once we get to the end of the journey we will realize that it will all be worth it.
- We need to realize that the joy that comes at the end is more powerful than all the sorrow experienced up until the end. The joy of finishing is greater than all the sorrowful experiences combined. Just like that child being born. The end result brings more joy that pain of the process.
- We need to realize that hope is our greatest avenue to joy. We can lose a lot of things, but joy is something that cannot be stolen. We can freely give it, but it cannot be taken from us. The hope we have in Heaven gives us great joy. It is a joy that makes ever other experience on this earth worth it.
Today’s Challenge: Don’t get bogged down in the struggles of today when we have the hope of joy tomorrow!
